Welcome to the summer IH Newsflash! Featuring news and updates about two additions to the IH family in the UK and Germany, IH Mexico and NCUK partnership for undergraduates, a volunteer project from IH Braga and some fundraising from IH Belfast, and two new CELTA centres!
The Directors' and Study Abroad Conferences
The IH Directors’ Conference and IH Study Abroad Conference took place in Catania, Sicily, in May!
Around 160 delegates from all over the world attended between both events, which were hosted by the fantastic team at IH Catania. The conferences included sessions and workshops, networking by the pool, a limoncello making session, a traditional Sicilian dinner and dancing evening, and a Gala Dinner at Palazzo Biscari.
Welcome two new members of the IH Family! >>
We are proud to welcome two new members of the IH family! The first is Torquay International School – IH Torquay, a study abroad centre based in Devon, UK, on the ‘English Riviera’.
School Director, Kevin McNally, started his career by taking the CELTA with IH London. “International House sets the standard to which all schools should aspire,” he said.
We also welcome International House Hamburg! Founded in 1998, IH Hamburg offers courses in eight different languages for adult learners.
IH Belfast raises money for local community >>
As part of a group of fundraisers, IH Belfast helped to raise £9,000 for Belfast Activity Centre, which helps disadvantaged young people. “[The money] will go towards … continuing the amazing work they do in youth development and their accessibility programmes,” said Paul McMullan, Director of IH Belfast.
IH Mexico and NCUK join forces >>
IH Mexico and NCUK have launched a joint programme for Mexican undergraduates. This enables students to start their university studies in Mexico with IH Mexico, then continue their degrees in the UK at one of the selected British universities.
IH Braga's volunteer project >>
Students at IH Braga took part in a five-day volunteer project during Holy Week for the second year in a row. The project aims to help tourists visiting Braga by providing them with practical information about what to visit in the town.
New CELTA centres in Romania and Italy
Two of our schools have become official CELTA centres! IH Bucharest in Romania and IH British School Reggio Calabria in Italy both now offer the TEFL / teacher training qualification full-time.
