On Saturday 12th May IH Riga held its first Sherlock Holmes Festival.
During the festival, speaking and writing competitions took place, and students were tasked with creating their own Holmes-themed stories. The best eight were then turned into videos and can be seen on IH Riga's YouTube chanel. As part of the event, the students’ films we shown to an audience, along with a pre-prepared video with Bill Bowler who adapts Holmes stories for OUP, and a live interview with Bert Coules who has adapted the whole Sherlock Holmes cannon for BBC Radio 4.
Director of Studies Ian Raby said, "we chose to focus on Sherlock Holmes because the famous Russian TV adaptations were filmed here in Riga". It was a great experience for all involved and an engaging way of bringing the English language to life!
