IH Brno hosted a Trainers’ Weekend on February 23-25, 2018, welcoming a fantastic group of enthusiastic and dedicated trainers to their school in Brno, Czech Republic.
The event was aimed at helping teacher trainers and mentors improve their communication skills through specialised sessions that blended theory with practice. The sessions were hosted by experienced teacher trainer, author and speaker, Adrian Underhill; Martin Přibyl, Assistant Professor at NEWTON College; and Dave Cleary, Director of Studies at IH Brno.
Topics presented at the event included listening skills for trainers, intercultural communication, making skilful interventions, personal presence of the trainer, and barriers to communication.
The weekend was centred around the successful IH Brno conference, Imagine, a conference for language teachers.
Trainers attended the event from across the International House network, from centres including IH Minsk, IH Riga, IH Palermo and IH Budapest, as well as other external trainers who came from as far away as the Ukraine to take part.
Attendees described the weekend as “inspiring” felt they had “learned so much”. Dave Cleary, DoS at IH Brno, said the event “was a great success, so much so that we'll have to do it again!”
