IH Torquay
IH Torquay offers a variety of courses of English in a mature, international environment. In any year, we welcome students from over 40 different countries.
We are accredited by the British Council and a member of EAQUALS (European Association of Quality Language Services)
There are 20 classrooms, a Quiet Study Zone, student lounge, terrace and gardens. Most students walk to school from their accommodation, and our busy extra-curricular programme ensures you enjoy your free time and make friends.
Groups are small (maximum 4 or 12 students) and emphasis is placed on challenging students to progress as quickly as possible, in a friendly and supportive environment. We aim to do everything possible to help each of our students achieve their aims. We do this by listening carefully to your study history, your current situation and your plans and ambitions.

The City
Torquay is an attractive and lively coastal town in the South West of the UK. There are two local airports (Exeter and Bristol) and London is two-and-a-half hours by train. Our destination offers a calm, peaceful place to study and improve your English. There is also always something to do. Torquay is set in a UNESCO Global Geopark, and close to two National Parks (Dartmoor and Exmoor). There are always many activities on offer related to the sea and beach, countryside and mountains. Torquay has many fine restaurants (one with a Michelin star) and bars, and throughout the year there are events and festivals taking place, such as the International Agatha Christie Festival, and the English Riviera Film Festival.
Testimonials
The CELTA (Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) is recognised all over the world, and it is the entry-level qualification most requested by employers. Whether you are a new teacher with no experience starting out on their career or a teacher who wants to further develop their skills and gain a recognised qualification, this is the ideal course for you.
It is only 4 weeks long but it will prepare you really well for the classroom by introducing you to the principles of effective language teaching, and by giving you a range of teaching techniques and opportunities for practical experience. It will equip you with the skills and confidence you need in the classroom during the course and beyond.
International House Torquay will provide you with the ideal setting to take the course. It is a busy language school, giving you the opportunity to see qualified teachers in action, and the tutors on the course are all very experienced CELTA trainers who have been delivering successful courses together for many years. We also run a Language Awareness course for those trainees who feel they need a little extra help before they start the CELTA. For those travelling to do the course, affordable accommodation can be arranged close to the school.
