Winner of the annual Ben Warren Trust prize!
23 June 2009

We are delighted to announce that the winner of the Ben Warren Trust prize 2008 is ‘Listening in the Language Classroom’ by John Field, CUP.

The Ben Warren Trust prize is a cash prize of £2,000 which is awarded on an annual basis to the author or authors of the most outstanding work in the field of language teacher education.

Set up as a memorial to the life and work of Ben Warren, who was tragically killed in May 1991 while attending the annual International House Director’s Conference, the prize has quickly become established as the most highly esteemed award in its field.

Congratulations to ‘Listening in the Language Classroom’ by John Field, CUP!

15th International House Agents' Workshop
15th International House Agents' Workshop
14 May 2009

The 15th International House Agents Workshop took place from 29th April to 1st May in Vancouver, Canada. Representatives from 31 IH schools met with 48 agency representatives in one of Canada’s most prestigious hotels. After a day of solid appointments the participants were ready to relax, most notably during the Gala Dinner as a private charter cruised through False Creek, out into the Pacific Ocean and back again. Drinks and dancing entertained those not entranced by the scenery! After the official workshop closed, a fam trip took a selection of agents and schools to one of our newest schools, IH Whistler. A relaxed journey up included a picnic in Stanley Park, a walk alongside a beautiful waterfall and on arrival in Whistler the participants were shown around the school which was followed by more dinner and dancing!

A high calibre of agents ensured a productive workshop and this year we also attracted a number of new agents from North America and the Far East. IH World was delighted with the Workshop in Vancouver, both in terms of productivity for agents and schools but also with the overall smooth running of the Workshop in general. Comments such as ‘I am now a big fan of the smaller workshop concept!’ ‘It was a really top notch event’ and ‘The format was so efficient’ really make our day!

IH Directors' Conference - Vancouver 2009
IH Directors' Conference - Vancouver 2009
07 May 2009
The annual IH Directors' Conference was held this year from 25th April to 28th April.

Hosted by IH Vancouver, the conference saw Directors from schools round the globe gather in central Vancouver to discuss ideas and innovations from within the network. We were particularly delighted to welcome Stuart Ellis-Myers as our guest speaker, who provided useful insight in an entertaining session, and Craig McWilliam from CambridgeESOL who updated schools on progress on the work currently being undertaken between CambridgeESOL and IH World. Along with sessions from our internal presenters, these all contributed to a busy but enlightening conference.

Once the sessions were over, delegates were treated to a number of social events, most notably a delicious dinner hosted by IH Vancouver overlooking False Creek and our Gala Dinner which was held at the top of Grouse Mountain, just a short cable car ride up!

In addition, our annual Charity Auction raised over $5,000 for Canuck Place, a local children's hospice in Vancouver.
