Content

To be awarded the IHWO Diploma in Academic Management you must successfully complete 5 of the 7 IH Specialist short courses for Managers in an Academic Context:

  • Teams and Communication
    On this course you will learn about how to manage teams effectively (face-to-face and remotely) and explore issues of organisational communication.
  • Managing Customer Service
    On this course you will learn about the different aspects of customer service in a language teaching organisation and examine customer expectations. You will explore how to improve the customer journey in your organisation or department and how to rectify quality issues.
  • Observation and Giving Feedback
    This highly practical, online course will give you the skills and strategies you need to manage observation and feedback successfully in your school.
  • Business Management
    On this online business management course you will learn about the key components of marketing and finance. The material we cover will encourage you to become familiar with basic financial documents, and also to consider your organisation’s approach to marketing and promotion.
  • Performance Management
    On this online performance management course for language school academic managers you will explore issues related to performance management for academic staff. You will learn how to evaluate existing systems and create a consistent and coherent CPD - Continuing Professional Development - scheme in your organisation.
  • Managing Change
    A readiness to respond to change and manage change within your language school has never been more essential than in these challenging times. On this course you will learn about practical tools and theoretical frameworks that will help you lead change programmes in your school, as well as supporting you in responding to change initiatives effectively.
  • Young Learner Centre Management
    This online course will teach you the key principles of how to manage a young learner centre or department effectively.

Structure

Each of the IH Specialist short courses for Managers in an Academic Context last 6 weeks and they are all run twice a year, so you can take them at a time that is convenient for you. You should expect to spend between 5 -7 hours per week on a course.

The courses are supervised actively by an experienced online tutor. You are required to work through a module each week with your fellow course participants, and complete all tasks within the relevant week.

Dates

If you want to apply to take the whole Diploma course upfront then you need to select the dates for the 5 courses you will take and include these on your application form.

Teams and Communication
26th June to 7th August 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Managing Customer Service
18th September to 30th October 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Observation and Giving Feedback
16th October to 27th November 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Business Management
13th November to 25th December  2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Performance Management
6th March to 17th April 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Managing Change
16th Jan to 27th February 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Young Learner Centre Management
22nd May to 3rd July 2021 (plus 2 weeks to complete the assessed portfolio)

Assessment

Each short course is assessed individually. Your tutor marks your tasks as the course progresses and there is the opportunity to resubmit if necessary. Participants are expected to submit a minimum of 70% of the tasks on a course. At the end of the course, there is a final assignment which pushes you to reflect on what you have learnt. The assignment, along with your completed tasks, makes up the portfolio that is submitted electronically to the IHWO Assessment Unit. Portfolios are submitted two weeks after course completion.

On successful completion of each 6 week course, you will receive a certificate from IHWO Assessment Unit.

When you have completed the required total of 5 courses you will be awarded with an IHWO Diploma in Academic Management certificate.

How do you apply?

Fill in the online application form, this will be sent directly to the Academic Head of Training and Development and they will contact you if they have any questions about your application. Once your application is approved, we will be in touch to let you know how to pay.

If you are applying for the Diploma, you need to specify which 5 IH Specialist short courses for Managers in an Academic Context you want to complete on the form.

Fees

If you want to apply for a complete Diploma, 5 x 6 week courses, then you will pay a specially discounted fee of £1550 (£1860 incl. VAT) for the 5 courses. This fee is not refundable if you don’t complete all 5 courses.

Alternatively, you can pay for each 6 week course separately. After you have taken the first course you will receive a 10% discount on the remaining 4 courses, providing you complete all 5 courses within 12 months.

The fees per course for the individual IH Specialist short courses for Managers in an Academic Context are:

IH Staff: £300
Non IH Staff: £350

The course fees stated are exclusive of 20% VAT.  VAT will be added to the fee if it is paid by a business or individual located in the UK.

Course fees must be paid in full prior to the start date.
