Essential role requirements
You must have a DELTA, DipTESOL, or MA TESOL
You must have a degree (e.g. BA, BSc)
The successful candidate must have current approval to train on Cambridge CELTA and Delta courses.
In addition, the successful candidate must meet the requirements for a Chinese Z-visa
We'd like to invite another experienced trainer to join our team!
In general, we have a mix of around 7-8 full-time and part-time trainers, who are all experienced trainers (CELTA trainer approved) and our range has grown wider since we joined IHWO.
The key responsibilities will be in delivering CELTA and Delta courses, but we'll also offer experience with in-service K-12 school teacher training - such as CELT-P and S and ICELT.
Experience with teachers working in Chinese schools would be an advantage, but not essential - other relevant experience may be just as important to our overall mix of expertise - for example, it would be great if you had an interest in VYL, CLIL, or designing blended learning.
Overall, we're looking for an experienced trainer who likes a challenge, who can be flexible in unusual situations and who like working as part of a team.
- Flights: A return flight from the UK (or other locations) to Shanghai
- Accommodation: 4000RMB p/m
- Visa: z-visa requirements (for work in China) are strict and often take 3-6 months to process. The centre will reimburse costs, but please note that this may require a visit to the applicant's home country, as well as medical checks.
- Holiday: 20-days per year holiday allowance, in addition to 10-days of national holidays.
About the school and City
General Plan International House Shanghai has only just joined IHWO, but the school has been around for 20-years. Our work is almost exclusively teacher training (at the moment) and we provide a very broad range of different qualifications - from TKT, CELTA, Delta and ICELT to a number of in-house blended courses for Chinese state-school teachers.
Our team is quite small, but generally very experienced. We need quite a lot of flexibility and creativity when working in the world's largest school system, but there's a very collegial atmosphere and we usually plan and train in teams - especially when we've got a new recruit!
Shanghai is a fascinating place to live and work, but you'll also spend quite a lot of time travelling around other regions of China too. Our training centre is close to the main metro line running through the city - so you can be in the former 'French Concession' or on The Bund in 20 minutes, or at the international airport in 30.
Most of our trainers have been working in China for a long time, so if you'd like to know more about what it's like to live here - we can arrange an informal chat.
Take a look at the school page here.
