About the school and City
IH Braga is known for being a friendly, lively and welcoming school with a team of loyal, long-standing members of teaching and admin staff. We have been part of the local community for over 30 years and are happy to now be teaching the 2nd or 3rd generation of local students. As well as English, we also teach German, and sometimes French and Spanish. We are an authorised Cambridge English exam centre and prepare our students for Cambridge Young Learner and mainsuite exams.
Braga, Portugal’s 3rd largest city, is ideally located in northern Portugal between the coast and the mountains. It recently won second place in a competition to find Europe’s Best Destination, and has certainly seen an increase in tourism in recent years. Braga has a rich history with Roman, Celtic and Visigoth ruins, baroque architecture and a church on every corner. Recent years have seen a resurgence in the historical centre with lots of new bars, cafés, restaurants and cultural associations opening up and contributing to the lively atmosphere in town. It is said that Braga has the youngest population in Portugal and student numbers at the local university (Universidade do Minho) are growing, with more and more students coming from abroad to study in Braga. To help you discover the rest of the country, Braga has excellent transport links, including a direct bus to the airport. Within easy reach is the bustling and beautiful city of Porto; Guimarães, the birth place of Portugal; Gerês National Park for mountains and hiking, as well as the beautiful northern coast.
