Job Description

The Language Lounge is where our students can come and have a conversation. A small team of ‘chattisters’ is responsible for the day-to-day management of this service.
There is no reservation system and students can come ad hoc. It is therefore likely that at certain times of the day there might be no students and the Language Lounge will be empty, in which case the chattisters are responsible for researching and preparing material for future sessions, developing our social media, etc. Chattisters are also required to work on a rota system with students in our Personal Learning Centre (multi-media lab).
For those students who join a group late or who are struggling to keep up, we provide a Tutor Support Service. This role obviously requires an understanding of the dynamics of English grammar, and some knowledge of language teaching will be useful. As this is a new, innovative service, we hope that the chattisters will be able to help us to develop the concept further.
Chattisters will be required to work 5 days per week, including Saturdays. Opening times will be variable and subject to change.
Incidental to working in the Language Lounge, Personal Learning Centre and Tutor Support, the chattisters will have the opportunity to see the workings of an Italian company from the inside!
The person
This internship could be suitable for trainee teachers, and there might be the possibility of a teaching vacancy at the end of the internship (depending on qualifications, etc). Indeed several of our chattisters have gone on to join the teaching team.
It is essential that chattisters have a ‘can do’ attitude and view this position as a job rather than a holiday! The successful applicant(s) must be out-going, friendly, reliable and have plenty of energy, and also of course be professional at all times. This is a great way to meet ‘real’ Italians, and many chattisters make long-term friendships with our students.
As the chattisters spend a considerable amount of time together, it is vital that they have an easy-going personality and are affable.
A driving licence will be required.
It is not necessary to be able to speak Italian, but we can provide Italian lessons. It is also not essential that the applicant is mother-tongue English, although they must have a C1/C2 (proficiency) level of the language.

  • Accommodation: The internship includes a furnished two-bedroom apartment, a short walk from the school in Jesi. The accommodation will be shared with one or more interns. About the school and City

Based in Le Marche region of Italy, Victoria International House is a private, independent language school (est. 1997).

With two schools, this internship will be located in the beautiful Medieval market town of Jesi, but with a requirement to work between the two sites. We are approximately 30-minutes away from the regional capital of Ancona on the Adriatic coast (ferry port to Greece and Croatia). The mainline train line runs through Jesi between Rome and Ancona. Ryanair flights regularly to Ancona.
