About the school and City
IH Riga is a modern language school in Latvia. The school was founded in 1993 and located in the historical centre of Riga. The premises are spacious and nicely designed. As a Teacher Training Centre we offer Cambridge CELTA, the IHCYLT and other courses.
We have adult, teens, YL and VYL courses. We have also become a newly certified LanguageCert centre this year.
Riga is a modern city with a medieval heart and art deco districts so there are always plenty of things to do and see. The main cultural and entertainment attractions in Riga are all within easy walking distance. The famous Jurmala beach resort is also close to the city.
The school organises parties and trips throughout the year and we have many teachers that have been with us for 10-15 years. We strive to create a positive and supportive work environment.
We have a very large, airy and pleasant staff room. We encourage our teachers to collaborate and share ideas. The staff room has a large stock of methodology and resource books for all ages and levels. There is also a small kitchen for teachers and a cafe area for staff and students. Teachers have their own classrooms which have wifi and CD players. Large screen laptops are also available for use in class. There is also a computer room available.
Professional development has always been a priority at the school, and the school provides a wide range of training options, ranging from in-house seminars and observations, to external conferences and special training in exam classes. The possibility to complete the IHCYLT and Delta Module 1 with financial support is also offered to interested teachers. We run weekly workshops and staff are encouraged to contribute to training sessions throughout the year.
