Job Description

We are looking for enthusiastic teachers who would like to join our dynamic team at IH Bydgoszcz, where we have been providing high quality lessons and teacher support for 27 years.

You are the ideal candidate if you already have at least three years of good quality teaching experience; you are taking or have completed a diploma-level qualification, and are ready to move into a position of responsibility at a highly supportive school. We can help your career to go from strength to strength through our comprehensive development programme.

Assistant Director of Studies duties

Over half of your timetable will be dedicated to this part of your role and you will receive all of the necessary training and support.

In conjunction with the rest of the senior team, you will play a key role in providing the high standard of professional development that our school is known for, including running collaborative planning meetings, providing staffroom support, doing observations, mentoring newer teachers and running workshops, including at our local conferences at IH Bydgoszcz and Torun if you want to.

You will work closely with the Director of Studies to organise and run school social events and Cambridge mock exams (some of which take place on a Saturday), conduct placement testing, participate in the weekly senior meeting, and help teachers fulfil administrative requirements and reach their potential.

When the DoS is absent, you will be responsible for the smooth running of the school, and you will be fully trained to enable you to do this. Extra duties include organising cover, assisting with timetabling and participating in job interviews.

Teaching

You will still be in the classroom regularly, teaching about 7.5 clock hours a week of your own students, plus emergency cover. This will be primarily groups with one or two 121s, covering a mix of ages and levels depending on your experience and preferences. Your classes will generally finish by 19:15 and there is no weekend teaching.

Bydgoszcz is in the north of Poland, with excellent transport links to the rest of Europe, including an international airport with direct flights to London Stansted, London Luton, Birmingham and Frankfurt, making it a good base to explore from. It is also within easy reach of airports in Gdansk, Poznan, Warsaw and Berlin by bus and train.

The city has about 360,000 people, with something for everybody. There is a gym and a cinema next door to the school. Bydgoszcz is well-known for its beautiful parks, including one across the road from school and the largest city park in Poland a 10-minute tram ride away.

Few people dream of Poland as the place they want to end up once they've qualified as an EFL teacher. Fewer still have heard of our city, and even fewer can pronounce it (here's some help!), but everyone who lives here comes to appreciate how liveable it is as a city, and how great it is as a base for exploration of the rest of Poland and Europe.

We take great care to help teachers settle in to their new life teaching English in Poland, supporting their health and wellbeing. As a senior teacher, you would be a key part of making this happen. Having IH Bydgoszcz on your CV is a guarantee of quality, and will stand you in good stead for the rest of your career, so why not join us?
