  • A working knowledge of Spanish

  • DELTA trainer status and/or IHYL trainer status (preferred, not required)

Job Description

El Centro Británico, International House Santiago de Compostela, is an established and well-known language school, with over forty years of experience in providing language courses and teacher training programs. Based in a spacious and fully-equipped school we have a large range of methodology and resource books for all ages and levels. We offer a wide range of courses for very young learners, young learners and adults with general English, exam preparation, ESP (including business and OET) courses and teacher training courses such as CELTA and IHCYLT. The school is very well known as a study abroad agency and as an official Cambridge English Assessment exam centre. Professional development has always been a priority at the school, and the school provides a wide range of training options, ranging from in-house seminars and observations, to external conferences and special training in exam classes. We run weekly workshops and staff are encouraged to contribute to training sessions throughout the year.
This role requires someone who is interested in and excited about training and professional development in an English language teaching environment. Key elements of this role will include inducting and supporting teachers, designing and maintaining professional development systems for teachers, conducting developmental observations, creating training plans, designing and maintaining resources, managing class administration and maintaining a high level of teaching standards throughout the centre. We offer a contract of 39 hours a week incl. up to 12 hours of teaching.

Main Responsibilities The successful candidate will be responsible for and/or involved in the following:

  • Maintaining teaching standards and enabling teacher development through observation, input sessions and day-to-day support
  • Diagnosing needs for training and developing plans and systems to address said needs
  • Providing innovation and leadership through the design and management of projects and events which enhance the learner experience
  • Orientation and induction of new teachers
  • Designing syllabi and planning courses
  • Planning, organising and running teacher training courses (CELTA, IHYL etc.)
  • Producing resources which supplement materials being used
  • Assessing, adapting and distributing resources to the teaching and academic team
  • Working to deliver new products and make improvements to existing ones
  • Placement testing and interviewing of new students
  • Teaching and standby teaching
  • Maintaining and promoting development of in-house /IHWO materials
  • Attending conferences and meetings
  • Assigning and monitoring standby tasks carried out by teachers
  • Supporting the Marketing and Sales Department

Candidates should have:
