IH Reggio Calabria's 14th Annual Conference for English Teachers

Grand Hotel Excelsior, Reggio Calabria
22 November 2022
08:30 to 15:30

'Together Again' will be the theme of the 14th Annual Conference for English Teachers organised by ih BRITISH SCHOOL in collaboration with Cambridge University Press and Assessment.

After a three-year hiatus due to Covid, finally, the Annual Conference, the premier English language training event for teachers in all State Primary and Secondary Schools, is about to make its return to Reggio Calabria.

The event will be held, in-person only, in Reggio Calabria on Tuesday 22nd November from 08:30 to 15:30 at the Grand Hotel Excelsior.

Since the last conference in 2019, much has changed in the world in general but even more so in teaching. The Annual Conference is the perfect opportunity to come together, be "together", share ideas, and develop professionally with top-class speakers, interactive workshops, and opportunities to reflect on teaching methodology.

"The community of teachers that had been built up over so many years of experience together, sharing and improving from year to year, has been greatly missed in this period of closure. It's time to get back to inspiring and improving each other,' says Patrizia Quattrone - Director of IH Reggio Calabria. "These moments together are a great opportunity to continue innovating in an education sector that has changed profoundly in the last two years."

This year's conference will have a number of plenary sessions. Themes will include the use of electronic devices in teaching (Ben Goldstein), ideas, methodologies and tools to support students in developing vocabulary appropriate to different levels of competence (Sarah Ellis), and the possibility of integrating the teaching of English with the development of life skills (Lucie Cotterill). Last but not least, there will be a short space to explore the opportunities for students to internationalise their education even more by doing part of their high school abroad.

The plenary sessions will be followed by a lunch to celebrate being “Together again”, to chat and interact with some of the IH Reggio Calabria teachers who will present a range of practical ideas that can be used with students.

In the afternoon, it will be the turn of the workshops. Teachers will have the opportunity to participate in two workshops, choosing from the 6 proposed, ones they consider most interesting for their professional development. The workshops will focus on teaching teenagers, teaching literature, and teaching in primary schools with practical ideas and activities for use in the classroom. We’re very excited that the workshops will be led by the experienced and well-respected teacher trainers Sarah Ellis, Mark Glanfield, Ben Goldstein, Vince Palombo, Lisa Phillips, and Shannon Thwaites.

Registrations

Participation in the event is free of charge for anyone working for an IH school, but registration via the website is mandatory as places are limited.
