IH Certificate in Advanced Methodology for Teachers of Modern Languages

The IH CAM ML is designed for teachers of French, German, Russian or Spanish. It aims to develop their theoretical knowledge of teaching, practical teaching ability and self-analytical skills.

Who is it for?

  • Qualified teachers with at least one year’s full-time experience (600 teaching hours)
  • Experienced teachers wanting to expand their theoretical knowledge and skill base
  • Teachers requiring a higher certificate than an initial teacher training certificate (for instance, to become a modern language teacher trainer)

Content

There are 19 sessions of which a candidate must do a minimum of 16. Sessions cover theories of language learning, language learners, skills and systems.

Structure and assessment

The course is run online and taught by qualified modern language tutors who have their DELTA or MA and an online teaching qualification. Participants are assessed on a portfolio comprising of homework tasks and a final assignment, all of which is moderated by the IH Assessment Unit. They are also expected to follow and contribute to the CAM course programme. The grading of the course is Pass or Fail.

The course is delivered in English, but the candidates participate in the forums and complete the portfolio tasks and final assignment in the target language (French, German, Russian or Spanish). They are monitored and marked by modern language tutors.

Please note that the level of English of modern language candidates will not be assessed during the course, however they should have a good working knowledge of written English (minimum B2/higher intermediate).
