Breakdown of Students: Most of our students are from the middle class. The average age of our students ranges between 25-45. Students expect firmness with a pleasant manner. They expect homework although in many cases they do not always do it. Our students on the whole expect interesting and rewarding classes where they expect to see some evidence of learning. More importantly, companies that contract our services will need to see evidence of it as courses progress. We subscribe to the communicative approach but we believe that equal priority should be given to the student's fluency and grammatical accuracy, easily intelligible pronunciation and appropriateness to various social contexts. The job is professionally satisfying and culturally enriching. |

Facilities: International House Monterrey is a start up so the staff consists basically of two people. One Director General, Director of Studies - English, and one receptionist. The Institute Headquarters are in “Colonia del Valle”, not far from the financial district of Monterrey. The school is equipped with computers (including wireless Internet) as well as video cassette recorders and tape recorders. There are four classrooms plus one resource centre/teachers´room. The resource centre is very small, but we expect it to grow fairly rapidly by early 2007. Teachers are encouraged to contribute to the growth of the materials bank. The school believes in pastoral care, and the Director is readily available to help teachers with anything that they require in order to help their teaching become more effective. The Director liaises constantly with teachers to ensure that they have all the necessary materials. |
