International House News
International House World Organisation are very excited to announce that the first ever International Playhouse project: “Shakes-share” will take place in London from 11th – 13th November. This project has been produced in collaboration with Trinity College London, IH Ancona & Jesi, IH Voronezh, Leyton 6th Form College and the Arts Educational Schools London. The event will see around 50 teenage students from Italy, Russia and the UK take part in a number of different cultural and linguistic exchange events.
The central theme of the weekend’s events is Shakespeare, to tie in with Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary celebrations taking place this year.
The weekend will involve a day of drama workshops on Saturday 12 November, held at International House in Covent Garden and led by Arts Educational Schools tutors, as well as the directors of the Italian and Russian theatre projects.
Each group of students will then give a performance in the theatre of Leyton Sixth Form College on Sunday 13 November. The Italian group will perform ‘Shakespeare in a Box III’, a bilingual play combining Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’, the poetry of Giovanni Pascoli and the music of Madonna. The group from Russia will perform ‘Shakespearia’, a piece which presents one of the plot-lines from ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’. Leyton Sixth Form College will perform their version of ‘Macbeth’.
Each student taking part will receive a certificate from Trinity, as well as feedback from Trinity’s assessment team.
Members of the public are very welcome to join us for the performances at Leyton Sixth Form College, free tickets are available here.
We would also like to acknowledge the support of many generous sponsors and partners, without whom this ambitious project would not be possible:
