International House is celebrating 50 years of providing teacher training by offering 50 FREE IH Teacher Training courses to people around the globe who are currently out of work.
IH-founders John and Brita Haycraft developed what is now called the CELTA initial teacher training course at the IH London school, running the world’s first Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) course in June 1962.
Fifty years later, well over 100,000 teachers have been trained by International House in our Teacher Training Centres around the world and online. These teachers have travelled to all four corners of the earth, from IH Sydney to IH Paris, inspiring adults and children to use language to fulfil their dreams.
To celebrate this landmark achievement International House schools, supported by Cambridge ESOL and Trinity TESOL, have generously donated places on 50 teacher training courses to those that are struggling to find work in these difficult economic times.
So, what are you waiting for?
Applicants must be 21 years or over and not in full-time employment. You must have level CEFR C1 or above in all four skill areas in the language you wish to train as a teacher in.
There is no formal academic entry requirement for these courses, but it is recommended that applicants have sufficient academic qualifications to enrol on a degree course.
Each free course place consists of the tuition, examination and certificate fees required to complete an initial teacher training qualification at the chosen IH Centre. Please note, accommodation and living costs are NOT covered by the award scheme.

Step 1. Contact your chosen IH Centre using the email address listed below. Make sure you put the reference ‘IH50TT’ in the email subject line.
Step 2. The IH Centre will send an application form and ask you to submit an essay of no more than 1,000 words explaining how a free place on an International House teacher training programme could change your life.
Step 3. Submit your application form and essay.
Step 4. The IH Centre may contact you for an interview. You will be expected to pass the Centre's usual Teacher Training application and interview process to be confirmed as a suitable candidate for the course.
Step 5. Essays from a shortlist of applicants will be judged by the IH Centre.
Please note: Only one entry will be accepted per person and applicants can only apply to one IH Centre. The essay you submit must be your own original work and you will be asked to provide a signed declaration to confirm this.
