IH Viseu teachers cycle 10,000 miles for charity

Huw and Carolyn Thomas, teachers from IH Viseu, embarked on an epic 10,000 mile tandem bike ride across North America, Australia, New Zealand and Europe in August 2010 and are still pedalling! Their aim is to raise money for a disaster relief charity called ShelterBox, which Huw used to work for. Their route links some of the many ShelterBoxteams around the world and helps mark the 10th anniversary of the charity’s founding in 2000.

On a trailer behind their tandem is one of the charity’s iconic green boxes – normally used to deliver emergency aid to disaster victims all over the world. And to help raise awareness of the work that ShelterBox does, they’re giving talks to Rotary Clubs, schools, scout groups etc – as well as media interviews – in towns and cities all along their route.

The pair has crossed North America, New Zealand and Australia and is currently cycling across Europe. They raised AUS $14,500 (£9,517) while in Australia alone. To find out more, follow their blog http://tandem10.wordpress.com/
