Global Charity Auction

The Directors’ Conference annual charity auction raised a whopping €8,000 for host school IH Valencia’s chosen charity Fundación Pequeño Deseo on 2nd May 2011.

Each school director was asked to bring an item from their own country that could be raffled or auctioned to the highest bidder. Some of the more unusual donations were a goat-leg whip from IH Almaty, Kazakhstan, a tea set commemorating the British Royal Wedding from IH Bristol and a vuvuzela horn from the South African World Cup, not to mention copious quantities of Ukrainian brandy, Irish whiskey, Mexican tequila and wine from all around the world.

Auctioneers Sergei Nesterenko and Monica Green provided a hilarious running commentary, goading bidders to spend up to €350 per lot. After the bidding had finished, Abdulqader Alkhaja, the owner of IH Dubai generously offered to round the total sum raised up to €8,000.

The money raised will be used by Fundación Pequeño Deseo (The Little Wishes Foundation) to make the wishes of sick children come true. This could mean anything from meeting their favourite football star, to owning their own laptop or being a princess for a day.
